The state of Music Education in California public schools is rapidly worsening. Here are the facts: there has been a 50% decline in the percentage of students (representing more than 500,000) involved in music over the past five years; the state lost more than 1000 music teachers; and most importantly, this decrease is disproportionate to decreases in other subject areas.

The Music for All Foundation has more information. The causes cited include budget cuts, testing, and the No Child Left Behind Act.
